Description:

Commander George Gideon of Scotland Yard has to deal successively with news of a mass murderer, a depraved maniac, and the deaths of a family in an arson attack on an old building south of the river. This leaves little time for the crisis developing at home.

Reviews:

Marric (Creasey) keeps his plots going and tightens them up, with the expertise of a juggler. His method is strictly documentary. But the understanding and emphasis on routine effectively build up the drama. He depicts the enormous job of the Yard with realism and knowledge.

Books of the Month

Fascinating.

Birmingham Mail

Commander Gideon is now so firmly established that it is hard to realise that he does not really exist. He and his aides, his family, his friends, have developed a solidarity, a presence, that makes rather sad the realisation that they are only fictional.
